B-roll/voice over video assignment
Split up into groups to do a visual video, using b-roll and a voice over to tell the story (no interviews or MOS this time). You'll want your video to be about 1:30-2:30 minutes in length.
Come up with stories that are visual, like you did with the slide show assignments. A successful video from last semester showed the renovations at Rocky Top Cafe. Here is a hard news broll/voice over video from knoxnews.com:

Remember the b-roll tips we discussed, and audio/script-writing tips. Write in present tense and write to your video. Vary your b-roll shots and remember you'll need wide, medium, close and very close shots with some stories.
You will shoot a b-roll assignment and record a voice-over as audio to tell the story. Take turns within the group doing these things.
Borrow a camera and tripod from the Library or the office in Room 333. Make sure you are supplied with charged batteries, a Mini DV tape (two if you can get it) and a firewire cable.
You'll be editing in iMovie. Look under "advanced" tab in the program for ways to overlap visuals with your audio.
Things to remember before the shoot:
-Charge the battery the night before you go out
-Bring the firewire cable to class to transfer video from the tape to the editing program
-Use headphones in the microphone jack to hear any natural sound you're getting with your video
-Take notes of appropriate facts or shots that will help when you write your script
-Remember to hit record. Sounds stupid, but I've forgotten to at times.
The video is due Tuesday, Oct. 28. You will have the next two classes to work on it. Schedule your time accordingly.
